«De Benifassà a Europa»: The Museu de Belles Arts of Castelló exhibits for the first time Mateo Vilagrasa’s work
The exhibition revolves around the journey, walking the road and life, and underlines the self-taught condition of the artist.
The path of his work is connected with the nomadism during his childhood through the lands of the Tinança de Benifassà and the Baix Maestrat, and later on through Europe, integrating North Africa into his vital and creative trajectory.
23 works from different stages of the Maestrat, Europe, Africa and Sediments series are in display, as well as a selection of 21 works on paper, 9 artist books and 9 travel notebooks. Many of these works belong to private collections and some of them are unpublished.
The exhibition includes the screening of the documentary Winter Journey (Adiós), directed by Anna Sanmartí, and produced by Nanouk Films, BAS and Suica Films.
A catalog has been published for the exhibition, presented by the art critic and poet Juan Manuel Bonet, whose title is “Mateo Vilagrasa o l’art com a equilibri”.
The project has been launched on the Museu de Belles Arts of Castelló and the Institut Valencià de Cultura’s initiative.
